The Kabul Airlift Author

 On Sept. 11, 2001 Al-Qaeda terrorists attacked the United States of America.  The Taliban government in Afghanistan provided safe haven to Al-Qaeda terrorists which led to the US invasion in October 2001. The Taliban government was overthrown and a NATO-led force maintained a continuous presence for the next 20 years. 

  The Kabul airlift was one of the biggest airlifts in history. Over 124,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan as the US ended the longest war in American history. The Kabul airlift was a success, but it was not pre-ordained to be one. The success of the Kabul airlift was brought about by the professionalism, skill, and dedication of US-contingency, response forces and air mobility personnel, in spite of significant oversights at the national level.
